As a temporary foreign worker in Canada, people have the right to:
- Receive information on their rights from their employer;
- Get a signed copy of their employment contract on the first day of work;
- Pay their work in accordance with the terms of their work agreement, including overtime, if indicated;
- Work in the environment without abuse, including protection against repression;
- Ask their employer to comply with employment and set standards in the province or territory where they work;
- Ask their employer to provide and pay private medical insurance, which covers emergency medical care until they receive the right to provincial or territorial medical insurance; And
- Access to health services, if they receive injuries or fall sick at the workplace, with reasonable efforts made by the employer.
In addition, temporary foreign workers in Canada cannot:
- Be forced to do dangerous work or work not authorized by their employment contract;
- Be forced to work if they are sick or injured;
- Be pressured or forced to work overtime that is not provided for in their employment contract;
- Be penalized if they report abuse, unsafe working conditions, inadequate housing, or cooperate with government inspectors;
- Have their passport or work permit confiscated by their employer;
- Be expelled from Canada or have their immigration status changed by their employer; and
- Be reimbursed for employment-related expenses paid by their employer for their employment.
