Super visa

Super visa allows parents, grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents to come to Canada as visitors up to five years during the first visit without having need to update their status. Those who already hold a Super Visa will also be able to apply for a 2-year extension, allowing them to remain in Canada as a visitor for up to 7 years on a single entry. It also provides multiple entries for a period of up to 10 years.

It is important to note that no dependents can be included in the super visa application. Only parents or grandparents, together with their spouses or common-law partners, may be included on an application for the Super Visa.

The application process is similar to the regular VRT process, except that additional documentation is required to ensure that parents and grandparents receive adequate support while in Canada.

The Requirements

  • A letter of invitation from your child or grandchild living in Canada.
  • Documentation verifying that your child or grandchild meets a minimum income threshold (LICO).
  • Evidence of a parental relationship to your child or grandchild (such as a birth certificate listing you as a parent), and
