New pilot programs to support caregivers and Canadian families, intends to make the caregivers program permanent

With the In-Home Childcare Pilot and the Home Support Pilot ending this month, the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship ministry announced a new and improved Childcare Pilot, which will allow caregivers to continue coming to Canada while we work to make the Caregiver Pilot program permanent.

The new pilot program offers home care workers permanent residency (PR) upon arrival in Canada and also allows them to work for organizations that provide temporary or part-time care to people who are semi-independent or recovering from injury or illness.

This new pathway means that once caregivers arrive in Canada, they will have an easier time finding suitable employment with a trusted employer and gaining clear and direct access to permanent residency. Through, these new pilot programs, candidates interested in working in Canada’s home care sector will be eligible to apply if they meet the following criteria:

  • Have achieved at least Level the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) standards equal to 4
  • Have the equivalent of a Canadian high school diploma
  • Have recent relevant work experience
  • Receive a full-time home care job offer

These new PR on Arrival pilot programs mark an important step forward in Canada’s efforts to meet the growing home care needs of our diverse population.
