Canada launches immigration pilot programs from time to time to address labour shortages in certain regions or sectors and to support the growth of certain fields or sectors.
The Manitoba government has recently announced a three-year pilot project to address labour shortages in the rural Midwest. The Central West Immigration Initiative pilot project will see the province working with seven municipalities and the Gambler First Nation.
According to a survey of employers in the area, approximately 240 to 300 people will be needed over the next three years to meet labour market needs due to new jobs, replacements, retirements and overall growth. Manitoba Labour and Immigration Minister says this pilot project will help meet labour market needs and successful planning, as well as generate economic and community growth.
