Starting December 1, 2024 application and processing fees will increase for several types of applications for visitors, workers and students to Canada. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will increase fees for several applications for temporary residents seeking to extend their status or enter Canada, including:
• Applications for restoration of temporary status (for visitors, workers and students);
• Requests for permission to return to Canada;
• Applications for criminal rehabilitation (including serious crimes); and
• Temporary Resident Permit (TRP).
In most cases, applicants who submit a complete application with the old fees to IRCC will not need to worry about changing the fees once they have been paid.
For online applications, your application will be processed immediately, and the validity of your application will be confirmed immediately or shortly after submission.
If your application is submitted by mail, there will be a delay between when you submit the required documents and when they are received by IRCC.
Costs may change during this period. In most cases, an application will not be rejected if you:
• paid the previous fee in full;
• submitted a complete application; and
• submitted your application by mail before the fee change.
However, if you need to make an additional payment because of the fee increase, IRCC will advise you on how to pay the adjusted application fee.
