If you arrive in Canada as a visitor, you will not be allowed to work or study in Canada, and you must leave Canada before your visitor visa expires.
Upon arrival in Canada, foreign nationals visiting Canada are usually issued a visitor card by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) upon entry, but this is not required. A visitor record is a separate document from your passport. Typically, a visitor record allows you to legally stay in Canada for 183 days. A border officer may tell you that you need to leave Canada early. Your visitor record has an expiration date, which is the date you must leave Canada.
You can see that you want to stay in Canada longer than your validity of status. To maintain your visitor status, you can request an extension of your visitor file. To do this, you must submit a separate package of documents to IRCC before the expiration of the document of status.
To extend your temporary visitor status in Canada, you must submit your application at least 30 days before your current status expires. You may be able to apply for status restoration if you submit your application within 90 days of the expiration date. If you wait longer than 90 days, you must leave Canada.
